Artist, designer, and collector Howard Smith will be spotlighted at the Palm Springs Art Museum in a new May exhibit. Smith taught at Scripps for eight years and made his mark on the art world with his signature “less is moreâ€� Finnish design aesthetic.ÌýÌý
“The Art and Design of Howard Smithâ€� exhibit, spearheaded by the Palm Springs Art Museum Executive Director Adam Lerner will open May 10 and feature 220 objects, including sculptures, textiles, ceramics, and collages.ÌýÌý
“He was a pioneer in merging art and design, and his story is a fascinating blend of cultural exchange, personal transformation and innovation,” Lerner told the Desert Sun. “Howard Smith was a household name in Finland for some of his works, but he didn’t have a gallery, and he didn’t have a lot of records for his art.â€�ÌýÌý
